RECRUITING AND TRAINING DIRECT-CARE WORKERS

In collaboration with the Cooperative Healthcare Network, PHI has been working for over a decade to develop effective recruitment and training strategies that provide workers with the sold foundation they need to become competent and confident home health aides.

Over the last decade, we have identified some critical elements for a successful recruitment and training program. Much of our work in this area is documented in two manuals, Guide to Recruiting Quality Health Care Paraprofessionals and Guide to Creating an Employee-Based Home Health Aide Training Program, which are provided with out consulting services. These strategies have also been adopted by the Catholic Health Association, in its Employer of Choice initiative.

PHI offers presentations, educational programs, and on-site support in the following areas:

  • Designing effective recruitment systems
  • Understanding and adopting learner-centered training techniques
  • Improving home health aides' communication and problem-solving skills
  • Designing learner-centered entry-level and specialized curriculua

For more information concerning these services, please contact PHI's Vice President, Christine Rico, at: 718.402.7446 or christine@paraprofessional.org.
