AARP Publishes Health Guide for Chinese American Elders

April 14, 2015

A free guide to the most common health concerns for Chinese American elders is now available through AARP.

The short guide, developed by the American Geriatrics Society with AARP’s support, is available in both English (pdf) and Chinese (pdf). It highlights health issues such as depression, thalassemia, and tuberculosis, and offers ways to discuss such conditions with one’s health care providers.

“We need to understand the unique needs of minority groups such as Chinese Americans to ensure their health concerns are being recognized and met,” Daphne Kwok, AARP vice president of multicultural markets and engagement for the Asian American and Pacific Islander audience, said in a press release.

The guide was published to coincide with National Minority Health Month, which raises awareness of the disparities in health care among minority populations living in the U.S.
