Community Engagement Is the Theme of 2015 Older Americans Month

April 29, 2015

“Get into the Act” is the official slogan of the 2015 Older Americans Month, to be recognized throughout May.

Throughout the month, Americans are encouraged to recognize how elders are “taking charge of their health, getting engaged in their communities, and making a positive impact in the lives of others,” the website of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) says.

The ACL suggests that Americans can celebrate Older Americans Month by volunteering or attending a fitness class with an elder, or by pledging an hour of their time to one of the estimated 12.5 million elders living alone.

Older Americans Month has been recognized by the federal government every year since 1963.
