Sen. Harkin, Iowa CNA Participate in Retirement Account Discussion

August 23, 2012

Sen. Tom Harkin and CNA Tracy Hoverland

Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Certified Nursing Assistant Tracy Hoverland were among the participants in an August 9 roundtable discussion on retirement savings in Mason City, Iowa.

Harkin is proposing (pdf) to create a new savings option called USA Accounts, which would help people without pensions or 401k plans to save for retirement.

Hoverland said that she felt the USA Accounts were a “starting point” toward achieving a nest egg to retire on.

Like many employers of direct-care workers, Hoverland’s employer does not offer a 401k benefit.
