September 23 Is Falls Prevention Awareness Day

September 19, 2014

Falls Prevention Awareness Day, which is held annually to promote awareness of the widespread danger posed by falls among the elder community, will be held on September 23.

The theme of this year’s Falls Prevention Awareness Day is “Strong Today, Falls Free® Tomorrow.”

An estimated 47 states, as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, DC, will participate in the events. Falls are the leading cause of death by injury for older Americans.

More information available at the website of the National Council on Aging (NCOA), which sponsors the event.

In 2010, PHI and NCOA collaborated on a free, adult learner-centered, falls-prevention training curriculum for home health aides.
