Acclaimed Film on LGBT Elders Available Free Online

November 28, 2012

Gen Silent, a critically acclaimed documentary about LGBT elders and the unique obstacles they face in their old age, is now streaming for free online.

The film, directed by Stu Maddux, follows the lives of several gay and lesbian elders as they try to secure care for themselves or their loved ones.

Gen Silent shows that many LGBT people who enter long-term care facilities are forced to retreat into the closet, as they face discrimination from the people on whom they rely for life-sustaining care.

The award-winning 70-minute film can be viewed in its entirety until New Year’s Day.

PHI and SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders) developed a training curriculum to help long-term care organizations meet the unique needs of LGBT elders.
