August 30, 2013

A new PHI fact sheet provides tips and resources for long-term care advocates to help strengthen the quality of Medicaid managed long-term care services and supports.

Medicaid Matters…for Managed Long-Term Care Services and Supports,” the latest installment in PHI’s Medicaid Matters fact sheet series, points out that states are increasingly converting from traditional fee-for-service Medicaid programs to managed care.

Consequently, the fact sheet states, advocates will need to be vigilant in realizing “opportunities for improving quality” and in protecting “against any erosion of benefits.”

The fact sheet lists the 10 “key elements” of quality managed long-term care services and supports identified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Advocates are provided tips on how to use five of these elements to ensure that managed care plans support quality direct-care jobs.
