Happy Thanksgiving from PHI!

November 24, 2015

PHI would like to wish the entire direct-care workforce — as well as the millions of elders and people with disabilities who rely on them to live with independence and dignity — a happy Thanksgiving.

PHI is especially thankful that more than 2 million home care workers have finally been recognized under federal labor law as the important professionals they are. Home care workers are now entitled to federal minimum wage protection, time-and-a-half overtime pay, and compensation for travel between clients.

We thank the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. District for recognizing the significance of a strong, stable home care workforce by upholding the federal rule change extending those basic wage protections to home care workers.

The value of all direct-care workers will continue to grow as the baby-boomer generation ages. PHI is thankful that more and more people will come to know just how essential these workers are to our well-being.
