In Memoriam: Leonila Vega

Leonila Vega, executive director of the Direct Care Alliance (DCA) from 2007 until recently, lost her courageous battle with cancer on November 19.
During her tenure at the DCA, a national organization that is the “advocacy voice of direct care workers in long-term care,” Leonila worked to increase direct-care workers’ visibility through leadership training, organizing, and worker-led advocacy.
Originally founded as a program of PHI, the DCA became an independent organization under Leonila’s leadership.
