New Mexico Caregivers’ Group to Host Event on Quality Jobs

April 8, 2015

The New Mexico Direct Caregivers Coalition (NMDCC) is hosting a day-long event in which experts will discuss the necessity for improving the quality of jobs available to entry-level and lower-skilled workers.

Raise the Floor, Build the Ladder: Good Jobs for New Mexico’s Workforce” will take place at the Hotel Albuquerque on April 28. Maureen Conway, executive director of the Aspen Institute‘s Economic Opportunities Program, will moderate.

Presenters will provide background on New Mexico’s low-wage workforce and detail the “raise the floor, build the ladder” approach to workforce development.

In 2014, Conway and PHI Strategic Advisor Steven Dawson published a white paper (pdf) articulating this approach, which prioritizes better entry-level job quality and career-advancement opportunities for low-wage workers.

Additional presenters will demonstrate how “raise the floor, build the ladder” strategies have already been successful in certain New Mexico organizations, and provide a look at how they can be adopted more broadly throughout the state.

Registration information for the event is available on the NMDCC website.
