VIDEO: Cultural Communication Training Improves Home Care

January 10, 2013

PHI affiliate Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA) is featured in a news video that shows the importance of cultural communication training in building strong relationships between home health aides and consumers.

The video, produced by Rami Ayari, a journalism graduate student at New York University, explains that CHCA’s unique training program — which requires nearly twice as many training hours as state and federal standards — strongly emphasizes the value of “cross-cultural communication.”

“You’re going to deal with different cultures” as a home health aide, CHCA trainer Jenette Mitchell says in the video. “You learn that you have to have patience, because everyone is different.”
