This article describes Mather Lifeways’ LEAP program, a comprehensive long-term care workforce development initiative that provides leadership training for nurses, career ladders for CNAs, mentoring for new CNAs, and team-building workshops for CNAs and nurses. The article documents outcomes of a pilot study of LEAP, which surveyed nurses and CNAs on characteristics of effective nurse leaders and factors associated with positive work performance and organizational climate.
