FACT SHEET: Home Care Aides at a Glance

January 30, 2014

A new PHI fact sheet presents information on the 2 million home care aides who assist elders and people with disabilities with bathing, dressing, and other crucial tasks every day.

The fact sheet, entitled FACTS 5: Home Care Aides at a Glance, shows that home care jobs are expected to grow by 50 percent by 2022, a rate nearly five times greater than the U.S. workforce as a whole.

It also includes information about home care aides’ demographic characteristics, as well as their wages and hours worked.

The average yearly pay for home care aides is just $17,000 a year, and a majority (56 percent) work only part-time hours, the fact sheet states.

FACTS 5 is the latest entry in PHI’s fact-sheet series on the national and regional status of the direct-care workforce.
