Examines the Federal Commission on Long-Term Care’s recommendations and conclusions regarding the development and strengthening of the direct-care workforce. The author cites examples of programs and initiatives enacted in Washington State that have been effective in improving the quality of direct care and direct-care jobs there. These programs include the SEIU Healthcare NW Training Partnership and Health Benefits Trust (of which the author is the executive director), which trains more than 40,000 workers annually.
